Skin Resurfacing With Era Elite

The Aerolase Era is an innovative 2940 nm Er:YAG laser designed specifically for skin rejuvenation and resurfacing. With just a single session, it can correct various skin imperfections, revealing more youthful-looking skin. Unlike fractional or long-pulsed lasers, the Era’s gentle 300-microsecond pulse duration ensures a clean ablation without causing collateral damage to the dermis, providing a safe and virtually pain-free experience.

The Er:YAG 2940nm laser energy is absorbed by water in the skin, efficiently vaporizing it to stimulate the re-epithelialization of new skin. The Aerolase Era is FDA-cleared for removing or diminishing wrinkles, acne scars, uneven tone and texture, scars, and various pigmented and cutaneous lesions.

Key Features

  • 300-Microsecond Technology: Allows for controlled skin ablation with minimal thermal damage to surrounding tissues.
  • Safe for All Skin Types: Particularly beneficial for skin of color, reducing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) and other thermal damage-related side effects.

What It Treats

The Aerolase Era offers a premium solution for eliminating visible signs of aging on the face, neck, chest, and hands, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Age spots
  • Sun damage
  • Brown spots or patches
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Scars & acne scars
  • Skin tags and lesions

Aerolase Era Elite Treatment Options

Downtime varies depending on the depth of ablation used during treatment. Individuals seeking deep wrinkle elimination and sun damage reduction may require a more ablative treatment, which results in longer downtime.

Superficial Ablation

For those seeking little to no downtime. Refreshes the superficial layer of the skin for a smooth, glowing appearance. Ideal for reducing pore size and improving complexion. Multiple sessions are often recommended for optimal results.

Medium Depth Ablation

Excellent for eliminating sun damage, reducing brown spots or patches, and erasing fine lines. Gently vaporizes the skin’s outermost layer. Optimal for more advanced signs of aging with a little downtime (2–4 days).

Deep Depth Ablation

For progressive signs of aging. Uses a deep-penetrating laser to completely renew the skin’s epidermal tissue for dramatic improvement in deep wrinkles, extensive sun damage, brown spots, and acne scars. Downtime occurs only once, not after each session — compared to 4–8 fractional treatments elsewhere.

Cutaneous lesion before and after Aerolase Era treatment

Scars & Cutaneous Lesions

Scar tissue, cutaneous lesions, and benign growths can be effectively treated with the Aerolase Era. This treatment gently removes the scar or lesion while preserving the surrounding skin. The affected area is ablated by removing a layer with each pulse until the lesion is completely gone, typically within one to two sessions, resulting in a uniform skin tone and texture. Because only a beam of laser light touches the skin, all body areas can be treated comfortably.

Era Elite Frequently Asked Questions

How many treatment sessions are required?

Generally, only one treatment session is needed for any ablative treatment, but subsequent sessions may be needed anywhere from 6 to 18 months following treatment to keep up with the normal progression of aging. The more aggressive the treatment, the longer you can go before a subsequent treatment.

Is it painful?

No, there is just a mild, very tolerable sensation of heat. Once the anesthetic wears off there may be some swelling and discomfort depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment, which is normal. Any discomfort should subside within a few hours up to 48 hours post-treatment, and an NSAID may help ease it.

Do I need anesthesia or a numbing agent?

This depends on the treatment itself. A superficial or micro peel may not need topical anesthesia, while sun damage and deeper wrinkles (medium depth ablation) require topical anesthetics. Deep wrinkles and extensive sun damage (deep depth ablation) may call for local injections or a nerve block.

What’s the difference between superficial, medium depth, and deep depth ablation?

The major differences are the aging conditions being targeted and the depth of ablation required. Superficial ablation ranges from a sub-ablative to a micro peel with little to no downtime. Medium depth ablation gently vaporizes moderate sun damage and fine lines, with 2–4 days of downtime. Deep depth ablation targets more pronounced aging signs like deep wrinkles and extensive sun damage, providing profound rejuvenation in one session compared to 4–8 fractional treatments elsewhere.

What are the risks associated with skin resurfacing?

Prolonged redness is a natural response to heat and is expected. Hypopigmentation and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation are more common in darker skin tones but are typically temporary. Scarring and infection are both rare with appropriate post-treatment care.

Is it permanent, or will my signs of aging come back?

Your skin will have a much more youthful tone, texture, and appearance, but the skin will continue to age naturally, so maintenance treatments may be needed in the next 6–18 months. Wearing sunscreen helps slow the return of wrinkles and sun damage.

Can it be used on dark skin?

Certain treatments may carry a heightened risk for certain skin types. The results you’d like to achieve versus the treatment options and risks should be discussed at length with your practitioner to decide on the best treatment plan.

Rosacea, Redness & Veins

Deep-penetrating laser energy suppresses inflammation and coagulates unwanted veins and broken capillaries. Sessions typically take 20–25 minutes.

Psoriasis

A safe, effective, and tolerable treatment that suppresses inflammation and offers faster clearance than other light-based therapies, eliminating the need for topical steroids or systemic medication.

Neo Elite Frequently Asked Questions

Is it painful?

No, there is just a mild, very tolerable sensation of heat thanks to MicroPulse-1064 technology. Anesthetics and cooling gels are not needed with Neo Elite.

Can it be used on dark skin?

Yes — the Neo Elite is considered one of the safest lasers in the industry for darker or tanned skin, because MicroPulse-1064 technology minimizes the chances of hyper- and hypo-pigmentation.

How many sessions are needed for acne?

Typically 4–6 sessions are required to achieve a good result, with occasional maintenance afterward. Improvement is commonly seen within 4–8 weeks.

How many sessions are needed for melasma?

Melasma typically lightens or disappears after 3–5 treatments, spaced every 3–4 weeks. Melasma is a chronic condition that is managed rather than cured — recurrence is common due to sun exposure, hormones, and genetics.

How many sessions are needed for rosacea?

Typically 3–4 treatments are needed, one every 3–4 weeks. Rosacea is a chronic condition that can be controlled rather than cured.

How many sessions are needed for psoriasis?

Typically 5 or more treatments are required. Psoriasis is a chronic condition that can be controlled rather than cured, and ongoing maintenance sessions are often needed.

How many sessions are needed for nail fungus?

Typically 2–4 sessions spaced 1–2 weeks apart. Reinfection is common, and good foot hygiene helps reduce the risk. It takes 9–12 months for a nail to fully grow out.

How many sessions are needed for hair removal?

Typically 4–6 sessions for 80% or greater clearance, spaced 4–8 weeks apart depending on the area, with annual maintenance afterward. The FDA term for this is “permanent hair reduction,” not permanent removal. Note that light-based hair removal is not effective on gray or blonde hair, since it requires melanin to target the follicle.

Who should not be treated?

Treatment is not recommended for patients who are pregnant, sunburned, or have irritated or unidentified skin conditions in the treatment area, those who have healed poorly after previous laser treatments, or patients prone to skin discoloration. Patients taking photosensitizing medication such as Accutane should wait 6 months before treatment, and those using topical Retin-A should wait 2 weeks. Raised lesions should be checked by a dermatologist before treatment.
